Associated Motorways (Pvt) Limited (AMW), the sole distributor for Yamaha in Sri Lanka as recently intensified its efforts to combat the growing circulation of counterfeit spare parts for Yamaha motorcycles. AMW, recently carried out their official investigation in the Eastern Province, targeting outlets that sold counterfeit Yamaha parts. Legal action has since been initiated against the offenders.

Though counterfeit parts may closely resemble genuine Yamaha components, they are not manufactured to the same standards. They often fail prematurely, compromise performance and put motorcycle riders and their passengers at risk. Whether brake pads, spark plugs, filters or cables, it is important to note that even the smallest counterfeit part can have devastating consequences on the road.

AMW advises customers to be vigilant when purchasing spare parts and ensure that the Yamaha genuine parts & accessories logo is present on the packaging. Genuine Yamaha products distributed by AMW are marked with an AMW hologram sticker, symbolising its authenticity.  Customers are urged to purchase spare parts only from authorised AMW-Yamaha dealers across the country and pay attention to the quality and finish. Genuine parts are precisely engineered and consistent in colour, material and weight. If there is any doubt, riders are encouraged to ask their AMW dealer to confirm the authenticity before making a purchase.

The sale of counterfeit motorcycle parts is both unethical and also a criminal offence under Sri Lankan law. The laws exist to protect consumers from unsafe products and to preserve the integrity of trusted, globally reputed brands such as Yamaha. AMW will continue to take decisive action against business that deal with counterfeit goods, through several initiatives such as market surveillance and mystery shopper initiatives.

AMW remains deeply committed to protect all Yamaha motorcycle riders by working closely with government authorities and law enforcement and to educating the public of the dangers of counterfeit spare parts. The company will also continue pursuing strict legal actions against counterfeit part producers, distributors and sellers.
