Deputy Minister of Finance Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando said that the Treasury has received the 6th and 7th tranches of the International Monetary Fund’s Extended Fund Facility.
According to him the Treasury has received US$ 695 million as the 6th and 7th tranches after successfully completing the 5th and 6th reviews of the Extended Fund Facility implemented by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He said this during a meeting between the IMF’s Resident Representative in Sri Lanka, Martha Tesfaye Woldemichael, and him at the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday (03).
The Minister pointed out that Sri Lanka has received US$ 695 million in two installments, which is a response to the baseless allegations made by various parties regarding the temporary depreciation of the rupee, which has helped increase the country’s foreign reserves.
He further pointed out that the country’s economy has reached a level where it can withstand economic shocks such as the war in the Middle East and the war in the Middle East due to the correct economic policy agreements reached with the International Monetary Fund to maintain stability in the economy of Sri Lanka.
The Minister, who stated that the government was able to intervene properly for the most vulnerable groups under shock conditions, noted that 500 billion rupees had been allocated during the Ditwa disaster and 100 billion rupees due to the war situation in the Middle East, and that another 20 billion rupees had been allocated for this purpose by the recently convened Cabinet.
