The Education Ministry has decided to close down schools in the Colombo Zone and city schools across all provinces till 1 July.

The decision has been taken considering the fuel shortage the entire country is facing at present. The fuel shortage has left the transport sector stranded causing private and public transportation issues.

However, the Ministry said that schools not located in cities and rural areas will open as usual if the students and teachers do not face difficulties due to transportation issues.

In the event such a problem persists, the Ministry has instructed schools to operate only on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays.
