Newly formed Bosch-Sun Mobility strategic alliance augurs well for Sri Lanka – Ideal Group

Sri Lanka’s Ideal Group expects better prospects for the country from the recently formed strategic alliance between a top Tier 1 automotive company Bosch Gmbh and one of India’s leading battery service provider, Sun Mobility.

Bosch, a multinational engineering and technology company based in Germany acquired 26 percent stake in Bengaluru based battery service provider, Sun Mobility last month

Bosch through its investment arm, Robert Bosch Investment Nederland B.V. invested an undisclosed amount for the stake. This investment comes as part of Bosch focusing on growth pillars in mobility sector, which includes personalized, automated, connected and electrified technologies.

Ideal Group which has developed strong ties with both firms, is also a distributor for Bosch Diesel systems in Sri Lanka.

Therefore, this strategic alliance will no doubt bode well for Sri Lanka in numerous ways in the future.” Ideal Group, Founder/Chairman, Nalin Welgama said in welcoming the strategic alliance.

The Tier 1 automotive firm expects that the engagement with Sun Mobility to be complementary in achieving their shared vision towards the growth of electro mobility.

“At Bosch, we firmly believe that the diverse powertrain technologies will continue to coexist. A mix of combustion engines and electrification will be needed for a highly efficient mobility ecosystem.” Bosch Group in India, President, Soumitra Bhattacharya noted.

Bengaluru-based Sun Mobility is an energy and infrastructure provider for electric mobility. The company was formed in 2017 with an aim to make electric vehicles affordable and accessible for everyone. It currently operates smart battery-swapping stations across 11 cities in India.

Ideal Group which emerged a front-runner in Sri Lanka’s automotive industry in a short period of time, is a distributor for Bosch Diesel systems in the county and it caters to end-to-end needs of customers from Bosch spare parts and after sales services with its Ideal First Choice network. It has established 24 collection points for Bosch Diesel systems in the country.

Further reinforcing the customers with repair and spare parts services, Ideal First Choice recently opened an exclusive Bosch service center in Colombo.

The Group has also diversified into a host of other growing industries that tipped to change the landscape of technology and business over the next few years.
