A new website and mobile application to reserve train tickets online has been launched by the Ministry of Transportation. The website : https://seatreservation.railway.gov.lk/mtktwebslr/   and the mobile app will enable passengers from anywhere in the world to book train seats in Sri Lanka in the future. The ticketing process which has been completely digitalized enables an automatic reservation system, allowing passengers to book tickets for all the train routes. The system has also been developed to include the issuance of train tickets, train licenses, and permits.

Passengers will be able to purchase tickets for first-class and observation compartments, second-class and third-class tickets, as well as round-trip tickets, and break journey tickets. Tickets can be purchased through several methods including Visa, MasterCard, and Lanka QR.
